Description
Indications
Anorexia - Malnutrition.
Nutritional support in intensive and post-surgical care.
Convalescence.
Tube feeding*.
Feline hepatic lipidosis.
Gestation, lactation, growth.
For catheters with a diameter less than 10 French, it is recommended to use Convalescence Support Instant Diet or dilute one volume of Recovery in one volume of water.
Contraindications:
Hepatic encephalopathy.
Acute pancreatitis and hyperlipidemia.

Increasingly, 2 energy levels are present in hospitalized dogs and cats:
Level 1: Convalescent cats and dogs confined in a cage. It is recommended to reach the Resting Energy Requirements (R.E.M) according to the formula:
RER (in kcal/day) = 70 x (body weight in kg) 0.73
Level 2: Active dog finishing its convalescence period, or in maintenance. It is recommended to reach the Energy Requirements in Maintenance (R.E.M) according to the formula:
Dog: REM (in kcal/day) = 132 x (body weight in kg) 0.73. The amount of food should be reassessed according to the clinical evolution of the animal. In case of anorexia, a progressive refeeding program is recommended:
Anorexia for < 3 days: plan to meet the requirements in 3 days: Day 1: 1/3 of the requirements, day 2: 2/3 of the requirements, day 3: full requirements.
Anorexia for > or = 3 days: Plan to meet requirements in 5 days: Day 1: 1/4 of requirements, Day 2: 1/2 of requirements, Day 3: 2/3 of requirements, Day 4: 3/4 of the requirements, day 5: total requirements.
