Monge was born in 1963 from an intuition of Baldassare Monge
It was a big bet because it introduced a new concept for feeding dogs and cats in Italy and also a great news for those who loved their pets and wanted their wellbeing. In those years Italy was experiencing a great change. Millions of Italians moved from the countryside to the cities. Our four-legged friends were becoming part of the household requiring more and more care and attention. Baldassarre Monge realized that a change in dog and cat nutrition was necessary because their nutritional needs are very different from those of human beings. This is how the company grew steadily over the years, investing in innovation, research and quality, dealing with foreign markets and introducing a new concept of products in Italy, and obtained records not only in our country, but throughout Europe. It is an ongoing challenge to which the new generations of the family and important industry professionals are committed, called by Baldassare Monge to make their contribution with commitment and passion.
Here are the milestones of a company that from then until now has offered tasty, healthy and balanced products for dogs and cats.
1963 Monge s.a.s. was born in 1963 in Monasterolo di Savigliano, in the province of Cuneo. It was the first in Italy to produce wet food.
1968 The production of wet canned food started.
1975 Monge introduced the easy-open cans. Another Italian first.
1989 Birth of first wet food products in trays.
1994 This is the year of an absolute first for Europe: dog bites are baked in oven for the first time.
2004 Inauguration of the new factory for the production of wet canned food.
2008 Two more European firsts: the production of the first cat packets and the beginning of chain production of cans.
2009 Monge entered in the Monge branded superpremium dry food.
2010 Other superpremium novelties for cats with LeChat Natural Timbalè, LeChat Natural Paté and LeChat Natural Packets.
2011 LeChat and Special Dog entered the super premium segment with the Excellence lines for retail trade.
2013 Inauguration of the new dry food factory, the most modern in Europe.
2014 The new Gemon High Premium Quality was introduced, allowing all top specialist shops to be served effectively.
2016 Launch of the new Monge Superpremium range, especially for top specialist shops.
