Advantix External Antiparasitic 10-25Kg

Advantix® Spot-On Solution is a pharmaceutical product.
Advantix Spot-on Solution is an ectoparasiticide for cutaneous use that contains imidacloprid and permethrin. This association acts as an insecticide, acaricide and repellent. Solution with active substances for spot-on dorsal anointing on the dog's skin; for the prevention and treatment of infestations by fleas (Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis) and for the treatment of chewing lice (Trichodectes canis) infestations in dogs.
For puppies over 8 weeks of age.
Advantix® Spot-On Solution for Dogs are antiparasitic pipettes that are easily applied and provide stress-free treatment for you and your dog.

Advantix® Spot-On Solution for dogs 10 kg to 25 kg at a glance:

Target species: dogs (up to 25 kg in weight)
Advantix® Spot-On Solution for punctual dorsal anointing (spot-on) on the skin of dogs over 8 weeks old and from 10 kg to 25 kg in weight. For dogs weighing more than 25 kg, the appropriate Advantix Spot-on format should be used.
For the prevention and treatment of infestations by fleas (Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis).
Fleas on the dog die during the first 24 hours after the application of the drug.
One treatment prevents further flea infestation for four weeks
The drug can be used as part of a flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) treatment strategy.
For the treatment of chewing lice (Trichodectes canis) infestations.
The drug is effective as a repellent and acaricide against tick infestations (Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Ixodes ricinus for four weeks and Dermacentor reticulatus for three weeks).
By repelling and killing the vector Rhipicephalus sanguineus, the veterinary medicinal product reduces the likelihood of transmission of the Ehrlichia canis pathogen, thereby reducing the risk of canine ehrlichiosis. It has been shown in studies that the risk reduction starts from 3 days after the application of the veterinary medicinal product and persists for 4 weeks.
Ticks already present on the dog may not die within the first two days after treatment, so they may remain attached and visible. Therefore, at the time of treatment it is recommended to remove existing ticks from the dog to prevent blood ingestion.
A treatment has a repellent (anti-feeding) effect against:
sandflies (Phlebotomus papatasi for two weeks and Phlebotomus perniciosus for three weeks)
mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti for two weeks and Culex pipiens for four weeks)
stable fly (Stomoxys calcitrans) for 4 weeks
Reduction of the risk of infection by Leishmania infantum through transmission by sandflies (Phelobotomus perniciosus) for a period of up to 3 weeks. The effect is indirect due to the activity of the veterinary medicinal product against the vector.

Other specifications:
The association of both active substances, imidacloprid and permethrin, acts as an insecticide, acaricide and repellent.
In laboratory studies it has been possible to demonstrate that imidacloprid works as an activator of the arthropod ganglia and therefore increases the efficacy of permethrin.
Imidacloprid acts against adult fleas and larval stages
In addition to imidacloprid's adulticidal effect against fleas, its efficacy as a larvicide has been demonstrated in the environment of treated companion animals. Larval stages in the dog's immediate environment are killed as soon as they come into contact with a treated animal.
The drug has a repellent (anti-feeding) effect against ticks, sandflies and mosquitoes, thereby preventing the repelled parasites from ingesting the host's blood. Consequently, the risk of contracting vector-borne diseases in dogs -CVBD- (eg Borreliosis, Rickettsiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmaniosis) is reduced.
However, if the environmental conditions are unfavorable, it could happen that a tick adheres or a mosquito or sandfly bites the animal. For this reason, the transmission of infectious diseases by these parasites cannot be completely excluded. The drug has a repelent (anti-feeding) against the stable fly thus contributing to the prevention of fly-biting dermatitis
Use during pregnancy or lactation:
Advantix® Spot-On Solution can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Contraindications:
In the absence of data, the drug should not be used in puppies less than 7 weeks of age or in dogs weighing less than 1.5 kg.

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Do not use in cats (see section "Special precautions for use").

Adverse reactions (frequency and seriousness):
Infrequently, itching and hair changes (eg oilier coat) at the site of application and vomiting were observed in clinical studies. On rare occasions, other reactions such as redness, swelling and hair loss at the application site and diarrhea have been reported.
On very rare occasions, reactions such as transient skin sensitivity (rubbing and scratching the skin) or lethargy may be observed in the dog, which were reported in spontaneous reports (pharmacovigilance). These reactions usually resolve spontaneously.
Very rarely, behavioral changes in dogs (agitation, restlessness, growling or whining), gastrointestinal symptoms (hypersalivation, decreased appetite) and neurological signs such as unsteady movements and muscle contraction may be observed in permethrin-susceptible dogs. In general, these signs are temporary and usually resolve spontaneously.
Poisoning in the dog is unlikely to occur after accidental ingestion of the drug, but it can occur in very rare cases. If this is the case, neurological symptoms such as tremors and lethargy may occur. Treatment should be symptomatic. No specific antidote is known.

Environmental properties:
Do not allow the medicine to come into contact with surface water as the medicine is harmful to fish and aquatic organisms. For treated dogs, see section Special precautions for use.
Medications containing permethrin are toxic to bees.

Read the instructions for this medication and consult your vet or pharmacist.

Food Security in Our Lifetime

With courage and commitment, we can solve the world’s number one health problem—hunger—and create a food secure future. – Jeff Simmons, President, Elanco

A food secure 2050 is a world in which people can afford and access enough healthy, nutritious food. It’s a healthier, more productive, more peaceful world.

Of course, the challenge to produce enough nutritious food keeps building as the world keeps growing. In 2012, the world’s population shot past the 7-billion mark on its way to reaching 9 billion by the year 2050.1 It’s not an infinite problem—the rate of population growth will slow significantly by then. But the steepest part of the growth curve is happening now. And in the next seven years, we’ll experience the fastest growth of the global middle class in history.

Of course, “middle class” means different things in different places. But, to put it simply, in the next few decades, billions more people will live a better life. And regardless of the specific income figure for a family or a particular country, one thing is consistent: as income grows, one of the first things most people do to improve their diets is by eating more meat, milk and eggs.

Sustainability Challenges

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicts a 60-percent increase in demand for meat, milk and eggs by 2050.2 Based on today’s production trends, we might not have enough. As hard as farmers are working to sustainably feed a growing world, a gap is beginning to emerge between what we’ll need and what farmers can produce.

And, we need to produce more with less. At our current rate of consumption, it takes the Earth 1.5 years to regenerate the renewable resources we use in a single year.3 If we stay on course, by 2030 we’ll require double the planet’s resources to meet our needs.4 And if we don’t start producing more with less, our impact will keep multiplying.

Three Solutions

The challenge is great but not insurmountable. We have the tools to change this. The choices we make between now and 2020 will determine whether we’ll make it there. To achieve a vision of a food secure 2050—a future where people have the means and opportunity to eat enough safe, nutritious food—we need to draw on three solutions:

  • Innovation: The tools and techniques that help farmers produce more food more sustainably—innovations that, in many cases, are already available and proven.
  • Choice: For societies, this includes sound, science-based policy choices. Farmers need to be able to choose among tools that help them produce successfully and sustainably, and shoppers need to be able to choose food that fits their cost, taste and nutritional needs. People feeding their families around the world can’t be held hostage by small groups of powerful, ideologically driven consumers. We need the courage to stand up for choice against a highly vocal minority.
  • Trade: The mechanism that allows us to produce food where resources permit and deliver it to people who need it.

We believe every person on earth deserves a minimum of a glass of milk and an egg a day. That’s a modest—and achievable—goal, and it’s just enough protein and complete nutrition to make the world healthier and happier. And, frankly, less than that is just not enough.
