What is coprophagia?
Coprophagia is the voluntary ingestion of feces, whether they are the own, other individuals or even other
species. This behavior is sometimes observed in dogs and less frequently in cats. Certain pathologies may lead to coprophagia, such as pancreatic disorders, malabsorption syndrome, intestinal infections, etc. They are a way to try to compensate for the lack of nutrients or enzymes. Even so, most of these diseases have another symptomatology that allows their correct diagnosis: blood in the stool, changes in the composition of the same, vomiting, reduction of activity, etc.

Coprophagia may also be due to different behavioral issues:

• Stress and anxiety
• Demand for attention
• Exploratory behavior
• Low frequency and quality of food
• Avoid punishment: If the dog defecates in an inappropriate place and is punished, the next time he can resort to coprophagy to avoid it.
• Young dogs and cats: ingest feces to keep the environment clean.
• Imitation of mother or other dogs

How to avoid coprophagia?
In case the dog has a coprophagic habit, it is necessary to go to the veterinarian to diagnose possible pathologies. Yucca
Cassava diminishes the intensity of the smell of faeces and urine of dogs and cats. This is due to its ability to neutralize ammoniacal waste by inhibiting urease. In addition, thanks to its saponin content, cassava improves the process of digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Mint
It was already used in the 1950s to neutralize the odor of feces in patients who had had colostomies or ileostomies. It is rich in chlorophyll, which can neutralize body odors. Its essential oils have a strong odor that counteracts that of feces.
Pineapple
The presence of undigested food in the stool is a factor that can induce coprophagy. Pineapple is known for its contribution of enzymes that cooperate in the digestion of food. This helps to reduce the presence of poorly digested food in the faeces, in addition to altering the taste and odor of the same, which discourages coprophagy.
Administration:
CoproVet changes the smell and taste of feces to discourage coprophagy. If it is autocoprophagia, administer it to the animal itself. If the pet eats the feces of other animals, it should be administered to those others, whenever feasible.
