The electric shepherd model must be chosen according to:

- Temporality: We will use it for temporary, semi-temporary or permanent fences.
- Power supply: If the model must be powered with line current (conventional electrical network) or produced through rechargeable batteries, a battery or 12-volt battery, or if the power will be from solar energy.
- Type of animal: The choice will also depend on the type of animal that we want to control, or if what we want to preserve are gardens or special agricultural plantations.
- Type of terrain: if they are dry, sandy or stony soils, a more powerful shepherd will be advisable than in humid terrain and a better installation of earth.
- Length of the fence: The longer the fence we will need a more powerful shepherd.

The Zerko-Solar 15 watt electric shepherd is the most recommended for those areas that due to their climate have fewer days and hours of sunshine. Its high capacity solar panel efficiently amortizes the little amount of light, recharging the battery. It is used for long distance fencing such as its 10 watt Zerko-Solar predesor. It also has three powers with different intensity depending on the animals that we want to protect in the electric fence or its length. It works with a 12 volt 40 amp battery (optional battery). The battery is placed inside the shepherd's casing, being protected from the elements. The Zerko Solar Shepherd comes with a 15 watt monocrystalline solar panel, keeping the Shepherd's load constant. For a better performance of the solar panel, it is necessary to orient it to the sun (facing south) and keep the panel glass clean.
